Some persons maybe confused when trying to identify what is the film styles and the genres of films. Film style is specifically related to the technique that is used in composition of the film which would include the cinematography, the production design which would take into consideration among other things the lighting and the props used, and also sound. On the contrary film genres relates to the narrative structure that is used in the film which would determine whether it is a Western or a romance piece. You may have two films that may be of the same genre but the producers may have incorporated different styles to the movie. A vivid example of this would be that of Independence Day and the Cloverfield, where both movies fall within the scifi genre. However the shots that have been used to develop the film were quite different as for the movie Cloverfield a handheld camera was used for the shooting which was quite the opposite technique that is used in Independence day.
