Angelina Jolie and Jon Voight
Jolie relationship with her father Jon Voight has been fraught with estrangement and unhappiness. Voight’s marital infidelity and the divorce her parents went through in 1980, resulted in resentment. Jolie was estranged from her father for a number of years. In 2001, Angelina Jolie and her father reconciled and he was in the film Lara Croft: Tomb Raider with her. By 2002, the relationship took another downhill slide. In September 2002, Jolie was granted a motion in court to drop Voight as her last name. Voight said that Jolie had “serious mental problems” on Access Hollywood right after it made the news that Jolie wanted to change her last name. Jolie then released a statement in which she said she no longer wanted a relationship with her father. After her mother passed away in 2007, with who Jolie was very close, Jolie again reunited with Voight after a separation that lasted about six years.
