My sister is having a love affair with straw flowers. Ever since she broke up with her boyfriend Matt, she has been fixating with different strawflowers and bringing home a bouquet almost every day. I don’t mind this really, because it makes our home pretty and just adds character to the décor of the place, but at the rate she is going, we will have thirty bouquets in a month and wouldn’t know where to place them. I guess if you think about how straw flowers look, they are really pleasant and cute. I like sunflowers especially with their wide, yet thin, petals, and so fragrant too! But if you ask me, she shouldn’t be taking out her depression on flowers. There are certainly better things to do out there other than spend your day roaming the mall and buying out every straw flower in a five block radius of your home.

If you are thinking about power raking your lawn, you should keep in mind that timing is very important. The ideal time of the year to power rake cool season lawns is in the early fall. This is because during the fall you have less chances of having to compete with weeds. Even though grass can take 4 to 6 weeks to come in, it can come in as little as 10 days. If you power rake your lawn in the spring and you pull out a lot of grass, there is a high probability that you will get weeds in your lawn before you get your grass back. If you do not mind pulling out a few weeds by hand, then I recommend doing the thatching during the spring. This is my preference and I think it works great because you can plant grass and have it come in really nicely for that summer. For warm season grasses, the best time to thatch is before the dry and hot summer months. Mostly, you’ll want to do this towards the end of the spring.
Before you power rake your lawn, you should be sure to mow it. If you mow it two to three days before, mow it at an extra low setting. This way, it will not be as much of a shock to your lawn that you are power raking it. Also, a shorter lawn will be easier to overseed and have the seed grow with some luck. Be careful not to mow your lawn too short. Oftentimes people will mow their lawn down to 1 inch and this doesn’t help out much with the recovery process. Usually I tell people to mow their lawn just a quarter inch lower than they normally do and this tends to work really well when they are thatching their lawn.
Using a power rake is usually a better idea than using a hand thatching rake. A thatching rake could take you hours to do the same job that you could get done in less than an hour with a power rake. Also, using a hand rake is really hard work. You have to spend a lot of time pulling and pushing and tearing in order to get the thatch out of the lawn.

If you’re looking to buy a new lawn mower, I suggest you should consider getting the Black & Decker SPCM1936. If you want more information, which you should, you can check out some online reviews. Checking out online reviews is easy. Just put the model that you want more info on in the search engine and you’ll get many links to reviews.
I looked at reviews a lot before I decided that the Black & Decker SPCM1936 lawn mower fits my needs. I’m happy that I looked at reviews, that way I felt more relaxed that I bought the right one.
This lawn mower is powered by a rechargeable battery. It does not have a cord dangling around and getting in the way. Also, I don’t have to worry about being close to an electrical source to power it. I bought an extra battery, that way if, for whatever reason, the main battery is not recharged I can rely on the spare one.

I have always loved spending time outside but work usually had a way of interfering with it. When I retired, I was so happy that I would finally be able to have the kinds of gardens that I have always dreamed of. I also decided to check into Hobby Greenhouse Kits because I thought it might be interesting to have one. I knew that I would be spending a lot of time outdoors, and my husband had even expressed some interest in joining me if we did get a greenhouse kit. It would be up to him and our sons to put it together for me, and then we could enjoy learning all about the things we could use it for together. I have already ordered a bunch of seed catalogs and I just know that we are going to enjoy our time together doing this. I can tell he is pretty excited too.

My husband and I have been living in this house for the last two years. We have always had very good intentions about making our front and backyard look nice, but they never really have looked very good. My husband and my son will regularly mow our lawn, but that is the extent of our yard work. We would really like this to change because all of the other yards in our neighborhood look beautiful. I also enjoy gardening and things like that, but I have just not taken the time to do them. My husband and I are thinking about hiring some landscapers to come and help us get some ideas for our yard and get it set up the way that we want it. From there I will be able to take care of that myself or my son can help me. I just do not know what to do with the yard on my own right now.

If you are using a synthetic lawn fertilizer, you might want to consider knowing how bad it can get when you overdose your lawn with it. Synthetic fertilizer is an entire opposite of natural lawn fertilizers. The latter is made of natural substances combined that cannot harm the living microorganism in grass and in soil while the former is made of chemicals that are non-biodegradable which possess danger when overused.
Be informed that synthetic lawn fertilizer can keep away earthworms that are very much important to have beautiful lawns. The tunnels they make in the soil are used for good ventilation for a proper flow of oxygen from the soil to the grasses. Their decays are nutrients which can be a food to the soil which lead to healthy growth of grasses.
Using synthetic fertilizer is not bad at all; you only have to regularly use it as well as attending to the natural needs of your lawn like organic fertilizers.

Did you know that Tucson is home to one of the most amazing networks of community gardens in the nation? Thanks to our temperate climate and more than 350 days of sunshine a year, Tucson gardeners are lucky enough to be able to garden year-round.
It should come as no surprise that there are an amazing 37 community gardens in the Tucson city limits (that we know of, there could be a few more flying under the radar). These plots range from tiny sidewalk-side growing grounds tended by just one or two individuals to neighborhood-wide efforts with a dozen families involved.
A great local organization provides some structure and support to the community garden effort, which makes a big difference in a gardens’ success. Community Garden of Tucson supports the many gardens with resources, planting advice, funding and supply donations, and networking.
Thinking about starting a community garden in your neighborhood? The hardest part about the process is two-pronged: finding the land, and getting people to help you. If there is an abandoned or undeveloped lot that doesn’t seem to have any prospect for change in your area, it might look like a great spot for a garden, but you can’t just start turning over the soil and getting it ready to plant. The first step will be to determine the ownership of the property and get permission. Community Garden volunteers can guide you through the process and provide experienced assistance.
Another issue that often arises with community gardens is determining who reaps the benefits of the garden – in other words, the fruits and vegetables grown. In a perfect garden season, you’ll be lucky enough to have such plentiful crops that there will be plenty to go around. But if the harvest is slim, make sure that those who put in the most work to make the garden grow get first pick at the produce. That will ensure that your volunteers stay happy and keep coming back to the garden again and again.
At their very best, community gardens create an inexpensive way to provide very healthful, fresh food. They can also establish great rapport between community members as they work alongside each other to make the garden grow.

There are many of us who love to have greenery around us where we live. This can be obtained by having a house that is surrounded by lush green trees that will be the habitat for the countless birds and the many squirrels that live there. This can be a very good place to make your house if you love to have the greenery in the place where you live. There are many types of trees that can give the house where we are staying a very regal look like the pine trees that seem like they are touching the skies and the grand old oak trees that have got many years behind it. Then there are those of us who love to have the plants inside the house, plants like the bromeliad plants that are very soothing on the eyes and at the same time they smell really nice as well.

In my opinion, Ryobi products are second to none. Let me explain to you why this beats all its competitors in the agricultural field. A few years ago, my old Toro mulcher blower gave up on me half way through the fall. Obviously, this lead me to my local B & Q to find a new one. While looking at all the mulcher blowers on offer, I stumbled across the Japanese product, saw the price tag and thought it’d be a great idea to try it out. What better mechanical product to buy than one made by the Japanese, right?
So I get in the garden, ready to try out my new toy and was initially horrified. It didn’t sound like it was sucking at all and figured the thing must be faulty. I tried sucking up some leaves and it turned out it was just ultra quiet. I love it!

There are several different types of auger rental available in the market today. So how do you know which one you need for your job? There is a one-man auger, and this is great for taking small holes that are roughly 6 inches wide and 2 to 3 feet deep. The one-man auger will dig a hole very fast, but you cannot put as much weight on it as you can if you are using a two-man auger.
A two-man auger can typically dig holes that are 8 to 10 inches wide and 3 to 4 feet deep. As it is called, this machine is used by two people. In addition, as to the weight of the machine, you can also add the weight of the two people using it to help the machine go deeper and dig through hard soils. The last type of auger that you can rent, is towable and runs off of the back of a machine. This auger is machine powered and driven into the ground by a machine that looks kind of like a crane. This auger will dig a wider hole and also dig deeper. It is useful for digging in soils that are very hard, or where you need to make a hole that is much deeper than 3 feet.

Most patio umbrellas can be used as an extension of the house especially if ones house is not big enough to accommodate all the visitors invited. These portable facilities are easily available mostly or hire from most events organizers and they don’t cost much to hire. Their portability means that you don’t need to make special transport arrangements such as when transporting a tent as they are less bulky. Once they are dismantled they are folded up and can fit in to the boot of an average saloon car. The supporting poles can be carried on the car`s carrier if they cannot fit in the boot. Most of the time the umbrellas come in pieces that can be joined then spread to make canopies. Because they are simple enough most people don’t need an expert to put them up as the pieces re self explanatory and one can tell what goes where.

Hydroponics is the art of growing plants in a different medium from soil. For this to be achieved a mixture of nutrients is dissolved in water. The word hydroponics is coined from Greek words. These include ‘hydro’ and ‘ponos’ which mean water and labour. The origin dates back to ancient Egyptians since they were the first ones to experiment with hydroponic systems.
Modern Systems
The modern hydroponics systems go back to the seventeenth century and there are several benefits associated with them. Some of these include the following.
-
With this system, there is no need for crop rotation since there is no possibility of it getting rendered useless due to overuse.
-
There is better control of things such as the PH and this means that you stand a higher chance of growing healthy plants. This is unlikely if other systems are used.
-
Hydroponics uses a sterile environment and as such, you don’t have to battle with cases of weeds and other setbacks.

Water gardens and ponds are about more than just the fish and the water features. While these are both marvelous things, the plants you choose also make a huge difference in how welcoming and natural your pond looks. One of the best groups of plants to have in abundance are pond bog plants.
Bogplants live at the edge of the water, half in mud and half in regular or moist soil. They are an excellent way to make the pond edges look natural, which can be really tricky, even with rock edges, which always look a bit contrived. Bog plants are also powerful water filters, and whether you plant siberian irises or humble cattails, you can count on them to be taking up the nitrates and nitrites that cause algae bloom and reduce oxygen levels for your fish.
Finally, bog plants give a pond a nice contained feel. They protect it from wind and can screen an ugly view behind it. What’s best, though, is that many bog plants bloom with colors that rival roses or peonies or any other prized garden plant.

The LED Grow Lights is preferred by many people for the indoor gardening due to its many advantages. It not only helps to grow plants properly, but it also helps to save money. The LED grow light provides the required light spectrum, which are essential for the overall growth of the plant from the strength of stem to the fruits and flowers. It produces the electromagnetic spectrum, which helps in photosynthesis by the production of chlorophyll. Moreover, the lumen, which is specifically used to determine the intensity of the brightness of the light source, is also optimum for the plants. Usually, in other light sources the lumen is not uniform, which means some particular color tone will be brighter than the other. This results in the non-uniform growth of the plant, which certainly can affect the productivity. Also, the LEDs consume less energy to provide the optimum lu men; therefore, it is preferred by most of the indoor gardener. Since, it consumes less energy, it cut the electricity bill and helps in saving money.

Though many people ignore the problem, ticks can cause a problem to both you and your pets. You will need to eradicate the problem quickly before it gets out of control and also educate those around you so that can be aware if they are coming back.
To do this you can use Aspenn Tick Control and they will help you follow a few simple rules in order to make sure everything is ok. Firstly the tick control will educate you and help to create a better garden and lawn. If you regularly cut the grass, rake up leaves and create barriers for the plants and mulch you will be able to complete the first few steps.
After this you will need to use sprays. There are several environmentally responsible tick sprays which can be used and will reduce the population. For the more hazardous zones you may need a stronger spray or more advanced procedures.
Once you have taken the right action then you will be able to maintain the area with more ease. Complete some research on when the tick is more likely to breed and you can maintain the level of their population. There may also be an outside source that brings the ticks into your home and garden. Be sure to clear these producers and then you will be free of ticks.
